Ubud Palace, A Historical Site in The Heart of Ubud

Located in the heart of Ubud, Puri Saren Agung Ubud Palace was the palace of the kings of Ubud until the 1940s. It is now inhabited by the last king’s descendants. Some parts of the complex are off-limits to the public, but entry to the rest area is free. You can wander around most of the large compound exploring the traditional and not excessively ornate buildings.

You will see the real Bali architecture still maintained around this palace. Take time to appreciate the stone carvings, many by the famous local artists like I Gusti Nyoman Lempad. If you visit this palace on Sunday morning you will see girls and boys are learning Balinese dance from 9 am until 10.30am.

The main courtyard of the palace is also the best setting for Balinese traditional dance performances. The travelers can enjoy the performance in the most evening that starts at 7:30 pm.

The Fact About Puri Saren Ubud Palace

  • No ticket is needed to enter but if you would like to watch the dance performance which performs daily starting at 7 pm, the ticket entrance fee of IDR 100.000 / person is applied.
  • Puri Saren Agung Ubud is located in the heart of Ubud, just across the Traditional Art Markets, therefore visiting this historical place can be combined with the shopping trip.
